Maria Asharam

In the Spirit of Vatican II, our General Chapter inspired our Sisters in India to live the renewal in concrete terms. We owe our very first step of renewal to our beloved Mother Anne de St. Joseph, who always envisaged great things for the future of the Province. With the undaunted courage of a pioneer and the tenderness of a ‘ mother ’ she did all she could to see that the young Sisters of tomorrow would be the solid future of the Province. Thus the old building behind T. T. C. School became our juniorate. After the formation of the Bangalore Province, Sr. Margaret Mary was appointed junior mistress.

The 10th of January 1981 saw ‘ Maria Nivas ’ officially opened. Sr. Emma Machado moved in with the juniors.

Maria Nivas was renamed ‘ Maria Ashram ’ meaning ‘ Hermitage of Mary ’.
