Community of Prem Nivas

From 1896, the formation House had been in St. John’s Hill ( Fraser Town ). All the stages of formation were housed there. As the number of formees increased, the place became inadequate. Besides, the need for a conducive environment for formation was reason enough for shifting the novitiate to a suitable place. At the Provincial Chapter of 1974, it was decided that the Novitiate be shifted to a separate house.

Sr. Joachim was appointed Superior of the Novitiate Community. On 13th May 1979 Sr. Assunta Alvares, the Novice Mistress with fourteen Novices shifted to the construction site with part of the luggage. Gradually ‘ Prem Nivas’ took shape, arising slowly and painfully from the foundation of noble sacrifices and generosity.

The Novitiate has undergone transformation with time, in its physical structure along with the updating information activities and programmes, making formation relevant to the times.

It is an undisputed fact that the beginnings of almost every institution always makes very poignant reading. So much hardship, deprivation and suffering have gone before undertaking the ….. ; the history of every institute is recalled with nostalgia and love …..
