Nimha

St. Joseph’s Convent – Nimha: The community was inaugurated on 16th June 2012, on the Feast of Immaculate Heart of Mary. Rev. FR. Aemilianus Lakra SJ welcomed Sr. Prafulla, Sr. Paulina and Sr. Teresa Paul with traditional way of washing of the hands and garlanding. SCJM Sisters from Umaria and SJ Fathers from Umaria joined us for lunch. In the evening we had the celebration of the Eucharist during which Fr. Aemilianus prayed for all the sisters of St. Joseph of Tarbes.

The Jesuit Fathers have given 3 class rooms for our sisters’ stay this year. Later on we will have to shift when we build our convent. On 30th July 2012 Sr. Bindu Varghese (Nurse) joined the community after one month’s experience in Chiringa Health Centre. It was the first step for her in the North Mission.

A Tripartite Agreement is made with the Diocese of Jabalpur, Madhya Pradesh Province of Jesuits and the Congregation of the Sisters of St. Joseph of Tarbes of Northern Region. The sisters are asked to teach in St. Xavier’s School at Nimha. 86 children are there from K.G. to Class II in St. Xavier’s School. 6 boys from the villages (School drop outs) are sent for community college at Katni run by the Malabar Missionary brothers.

Because of severe cold Sr. Bindu was getting ear ache. So doctor advised her to have a change of place. So our Provincial and the Regional Council decided to send her back to Bangalore. On 26th December 2012 she travelled to Bangalore.

On the Feast of Conversion of St. Paul the apostle, Sr. Teresa Paul the third member joined the community of Nimha.

On 4th July 2015 Bishop of Jabalpur Rt. Rev. Bishop Gerald Almeida blessed our New Convent building. Fr. Kalyanus Minj SJ the Provincial of Madhya Pradesh Province and Sr. Christina Mary Our Regional Superior cut the ribbon and opened the Convent for all to enter in. We had the Eucharistic celebration followed by the meal. It was a beautiful day.

At present we are three Sisters in the Community. Sr. Kiran Lakra –Superior, Sr. Teresa Paul – Bursar and Sr. Rose Ekka – Junior Sister. We are engaged in Education and Pastoral Ministry. We have 4 acres of land which we cultivate with different crops. Rainy season and winter season are the busiest time for the field work. The people of the villages are a great help for us. Time to time they come and work according to our need.

We work together, help each other, support one another- that is the beauty of our community. There is real joy and freedom with which we live a simple life style. This is very transparent and it radiates to others. Thank you and praise you Jesus.
