Gollahali

SRs. Celestine and Jude, our veteran missionaries, with the cooperation of other persons committed to similar ministries, a registered society was formed, directed by Sr. Celestine. The Society bought a property at Gollahalli with a view to organizing various activities for the development of the people. From Ragadahalli they opened a training centre for social work in Gollahalli.

Sr. Jude resigned from the school and was fully involved in social work with Sr. Celestine. From 1979 to 1982 they lived in a tiny little rented house in the very heart of the hamlet, with the people and among the people with hardly any facilities – proof of our Sisters’ austerity and spirit of sacrifice !

Fr. Claude D’Souza SJ. has been a constant support and inspiration to our Sisters in this beautiful mission.

In 1982 Sr. Celestine was appointed Regional Superior of Mysore. Sr. Esther, along with the postulants moved to Gollahalli. Sr. Esther was in charge of the project there. After a year Sr. Jude was given the charge of the Sunanda project. Two other Sisters were also sent there to serve in the mission. In 1985 Sr. Celestine resigned from her responsibility as a Regional Superior and took up the Sunanda project in Gollahalli, the twin apostolate of Coromandel. In today’s language, this can be called the ‘ satellite community ’ of Coromandel. The earlier poor and old building having been demolished, the Sunanda Organisation bought the present entire campus of Mythri Sagar.

“ It was worth bearing all the sufferings and difficulties of the beginning ”, says our inspirational leader –Sr. Celestine. Both Srs. Celestine and Jude are persevering in their vision and mission, come what may !
